Dr. Hurtado is a New Mexico native who was raised on his family’s ranch in Holman. He trained as a dentist and surgeon at prestigious institutions in both Texas and Kentucky. As an already distinguished young surgeon, he had the opportunity to practice virtually anywhere. Dr. Hurtado chose to return home to our state.

Dr. Hurtado is trained in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has a special interest in dentoalveolar surgery, office-based anesthesia, dental implants, and bone grafting. Providing these life-changing procedures to the communities he grew up in is especially rewarding. Another factor that called him back home was the lifestyle. To this day, Dr. Hurtado loves ranching, the outdoors, and sharing these important parts of life in New Mexico with his beloved wife and kids.

Patient Connection

Dr. Hurtado is a New Mexico native. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico, his doctorate in dental surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry, and his doctorate in medicine from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Dr. Hurtado’s Education and Specialized Training

Dr. Hurtado began his academic journey at the University of New Mexico, earning his undergraduate degree from the state’s oldest and largest university. He went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at Baylor College of Dentistry in 2012, followed by a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 2015. His advanced training continued with a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the top-ranked hospital in the Kentucky and Bluegrass region.

As a medical resident, Dr. Hurtado was selected for the prestigious Clinical Observership Program through the Osteo Science Foundation, where he had the privilege of training under Dr. Anthony Sclar, a world-renowned implant specialist who had completed over 20,000 dental implant procedures. This experience provided Dr. Hurtado with rare, hands-on exposure to advanced surgical techniques and complex implant procedures, solidifying his reputation for precision and excellence in oral surgery.

Beyond his clinical training, Dr. Hurtado is deeply committed to continuing education and advancing the field of implant and oral surgery. He regularly attends national conferences, workshops, and specialized implant symposiums to stay current with the latest innovations in surgical technology and patient care. Known for his compassionate approach, Dr. Hurtado combines his technical skill with a warm, patient-focused demeanor, ensuring every individual feels comfortable, informed, and confident throughout their treatment experience.

Dr. Healy has performed surgical wisdom teeth removal on both my teenagers and they both had a positive experience. I noticed that even within one years time he changed his practice so when it came to my daughter we followed her regime as given and her recovery went even better than my son's.
